5 beautiful festive bold lipsticks

In my recent trip to Europe, I realised that European women hardly use any harsh makeup. Either they opt for nude lips with a light non-gooey gloss, and a bit of mascara or they go for a classic red lip and black winged eye liner look. There is nothing too extreme for them with heaps of eye shadows or layers of foundation on their face. Even the brides keep it simple. And believe me, it looks much more appealing as they try to keep it as natural as possible. Their vintage/classic look of red lips is fascinating. They love to use cool shades of red on their lips. (Cool shades mean pinkish reds or bluish reds.) These are not stark vermilion reds but something subtle and beautiful.

Mumbaigloss decided to list 5 beautiful shades of reds in India which I regularly use. These are not exactly red but look beautiful on my skin tone. And mind it, none of this is sponsored. It is my choice of makeup that I use on everyday basis. I am sure it will help a lot of others who are trying to figure out a decent shade of lipstick for themselves.

Lakme 9 to 5 Red Chaos

My first pick is Lakme 9 to 5 Red Chaos enriched with vitamin E. This lip shade has a good staying power and a matte finish. Ideal for every day wear, the colour is muted pink hinting towards red but looks beautiful on medium to fair complexion. I use it almost every day and it looks and feels great. If I want to make it look more dramatic then I apply a Colourbar gloss in the shade of Natural Tan over it and it feels perfect.

Maybelline Superstay 14 hour lipstick – Non-Stop Red

Pink red lipstick
If you are fed up of the pop colour pinks then take a pick on this lovely shade. This is a beautiful pinkish red and looks great with denims or blue casual wear. It is not a cutesy/girly colour but a bold matte red with a hint of pink to enhance your natural complexion. The staying power is decent and not 14 hours as claimed by the company. It doesn’t transfer easily. You can use clear gloss as a top coat to add a little drama to your lips. Always keep it handy for touch ups as when you eat, it tends to comes off.

MAC Ruby Woo

Ruby Woo MAC, red lips
MAC’s Ruby Woo shade is a classic beauty. I prefer it over Russian Red. This is a bold matte berry red colour which goes very well with classic LBD (Little Black Dress) or any navy to blue dress. Even silver or sequinned dresses look great with this shade. The texture might feel a bit dry so it is better to apply it on moisturised lips. It comes off very easily while eating, especially from the inside lips, so I always carry it for emergency touch ups. (Please don’t do touch ups right at the dining table. Always excuse yourself to another room or bath room before re-applying makeup.) Ruby Woo looks great on medium to fair complexion.

Faces Canada Ultime Pro Longwear Matte Lipstick – Bold

At first, Faces Canada Ultime Pro Longwear Matte Lipstick – Bold shade looks more of hot pink than red. But gradually when the pigments settle, it gives a very blush red/pink sort of colour which instantly brightens up the complexion. The staying power is good and it doesn’t transfer easily. It looks great with summery floral dresses or casual wear. I wore it with black and it still looked great.

Revlon Pencil Lip liner in Burgundy

Red lipstick Indian Revlon
This is a beautiful deep red colour which stays on for more than 4 hours. I use this lip liner all over my lips after exfoliating and moisturising and then top it up with a clear gloss or Vaseline lip liner. The product is inexpensive but gives a beautiful shape and colour to my lips. I have worn it to many evening parties and it has looked great with both ethnic and western wear.
