Alfonso Del Portillo wins the Diageo Reserve World Class India Finals 2015

Alfonso Del Portillo from Drinks on MG, Bangalore was conferred the title of the India Bartender of the Year at Diageo Reserve World Class 2015. The winner will represent India and compete with the world’s best bartenders at Diageo Reserve World Class Global Finals to be held in Cape Town, South Africa, in September, 2015. Runner up Bensan Varghese from Arola, JW Mariot, Mumbai and Second Runner up Mayur Marne from Hakkasan, Mumbai too impressed the judges and the attendees with their creativity and craftsmanship, thus earning them the second and third position respectively. Top 20 bartenders were judged by an expert panel consisting of Bhavesh Somaya -Head of Luxury, United Spirits Ltd – a Diageo Group company; Will Thompson – Global Brand Ambassador, Don Julio; Alex Sanchez -Executive Chef, The Table; Zbigniew Zapert -Reserve Brand Ambassador India and Nicholas Ord – Reserve Brand Ambassador India.

Speaking about Diageo Reserve World Class India Finals 2015, Will Thompson, Global Brand Ambassador, Don Julio, said “This year’s competition has been exceptional. He also shared his signature drink recipes with us to shake up a storm at home. Here are two impressive drinks from him for you to recreate:

1. FLAPPER FIZZ

Cocktail recipe, Will Thompson,  Tequila cocktail, Don Julio

Ingredient:

• 25ml Don Julio Blanco

• 15ml Pressed white grapefruit juice

• 10ml Agave Pinch of salt

Instruction:

• Shake the ingredients together and strain into a coupe, top with champagne and garnish with a twist of grapefruit.

 

2. FRESH PEACH MARGARITA

Fruity cocktail recipe,  Will Thompson,  Don Julio,  Tequila cocktail

Ingredient:

• 250ml Don Julio Blanco

• 125ml Agave water

• 125ml fresh lime3 x fresh peach

• 60ml peach nectar

• 5 dots of peach bitters (optional)

Instruction:

• Blend together with a few cubes of ice and serve in a large jug over ice
