Best dressed in Cannes Film Festival 2015

(Images from various online portals)

Like every year, Cannes Film Festival 2015 has also brought us some amazing fashion moments. European tabloids are going gaga over Kendel Jenner’s dress. But to me it was run-of-the-mill stuff. Of course, Kendel Jenner is one of the most searched celebs from the Kardashian clan and even if any member from their family sneezes, it becomes a news. So I wasn’t surprized when her black crop top and skirt (more like Indian ghagra choli) started getting rave reviews. But coming to Indian celebs currently at the French town, Sonam Kapoor tried to take fashion risks this year which just backfired. Her cobalt blue Ralph & Russo dress and the feathery green Elie Saab gown, both were not red carpet favourites. The cobalt blue nearly washed out her complexion making her look sick in few frames. The makeup artist should have paid attention. Though her hair looked fab. Her Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla Black and gold brocade dress was too vintage, yet was eye catching. Fashion is all about experimenting so I can say lady, you haven’t lost it all. Keep trying and next time beat up the fashion blues. (Literally)

Katrina Kaif was a first timer so we ought to give her some leeway. Her towering look in red lace Elie Saab with a 10 inch heel didn’t get her any brownie points. It was very orthodox for her age. Or maybe she was adhering to some ‘Kapoor Bahu’ protocols. Her black and beige Oscar De La Renta gown was nothing extraordinary either. The makeup was looking drab as she tried to pull together a Kim Kardashian pale lips and dark eyes look. She looks great in pinks and should have tried something in that colour family. Though I liked her daytime Milly black and white dress.

Aishwarya Rai never fails to surprize. Her last few years at Cannes have been anything but boring.  This time she chose a teal Elie Saab gown which was fun and flirty but not classy. I was a bit disappointed with that choice for her red carpet appearance. Moreover, she chose a Sabyasaachi dress for one of her day looks which made her look like a palatial rose garden. The dress made her look older than she is. But later she appeared in more polished looks that made up for that disappointment.

I loved her Ralph & Russo structured white and black gown with embellishments. It had drama, it had class and it looked perfect for a high-octane red carpet event like Cannes Film Festival. I also loved her burgundy Oscar De La Renta gown for the Jazbaa photocall. The colour looked rich and made her appear younger in the backdrop of the French Riviera. No wonder she is still the most sought after celebrity for brand associations.

Apart from these Bollywood beauties, Richa Chaddha was seen promoting her movie Masaan, which received a standing ovation at the premier. Sabyasaachi saari looked fabulous on her.
