GJEPC India announces ‘The Artisan Jewellery Design Awards’ 2014 based on Indian cinema

Can you imagine Bollywood without jewellery? Just think about the lavish outfits of Jodha Akhbar (Remember Aishwarya in polki raani haar) or the delicate rings our heroes use to propose to their lady love. In a nutshell, jewellery has been, is, and always will be an important aspect in the filmdom. And this is where The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) decided to celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema by inviting design entries inspired from the timeless classics like Raja Harishchandra, Devdas, Mother India, Sholay, etc. GJEPC has invited participation from all established and budding designers across the nation to bring out the best of their designs and present it by August 15th. The award function will be held in December. This award will promote highest levels of artistry, innovation and individuality among Indian jewellery designers. Fashion icon, and GJEPC Brand Ambassador Sonam Kapoor says, “I believe jewellery is an expression of one’s individuality. Artisan Jewellery award is a wonderful initiative by GJEPC that provides an apt platform to all designers to showcase their creativity and talent. The competition has four distinct categories namely the ‘Monochromatic Era’, ‘Golden Era’, ‘Colourama Era’, ‘Avant Garde Era’. Each category has 4 shortlisted movies based on which designers will have to present their sketches for the first round. Submissions will be evaluated by an esteem panel comprising industry veterans such as Usha Balakrishnan – jewellery historian, Priya Tanna –editor-VOGUE India, and Ashiesh Shah.
