New things at Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2017

Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2017 saw a couple of firsts this season.

1.The event was low key compared to previous seasons as it moved its venue from five star hotels to Jio Garden in BKC (a first in its history) and kept it simple with only the fashion fraternity and limited media. This may be a big relief for the organisers as mostly buyers and journalists thronged the bays and guests were kept to minimum.

2.For the first time ever stunning Padma Lakshmi, model and cookbook author walked the ramp in Lakme Fashion Week for designer Tarun Tahiliani.

3. Lakme Fashion Week became gender neutral by including transgender model Anjali Lama from Nepal in the model pool. Gender-neutral model Petr Nitka from Czech Republic who has walked numerous international runways was also part of the Lakme Fashion Week for the first time. With more and more designers going for androgynous silhouettes, it makes sense to hire people from various orientations and built. Mr. Jaspreet Chandok, Head- Fashion, IMG Reliance Ltd said, “With the aim of evolving mindsets and creating a more inclusive conversation around fashion, we have opened our runway to diverse and unconventional models and are curating some path-breaking shows that will further highlight our commitment to continue the conversation on inclusivity which we started last season. As a leading voice in Fashion, IMG Reliance hopes to continuously drive the industry into conversations around inclusivity which we feel will only enhance the business of fashion in the years to come.”

4. Lakme Fashion Week opening show was on a cruise ship called Costa neoClassica which sails between Mumbai and Maldives, for designer Monisha Jaisingh.  It was a luxurious affair with customised robes for the models, shirtless sailors strutting the ramp and on the house champagne for the guests.
