Learn dancing from Madhuri Dixit for free on your phone

Mumbaigloss has always loved fitness related topics. More so when I personally feel the need to indulge in activities which will help me remain fit and are fun to do. So I recently downloaded this free app Dance With Madhuri (DWM) on my android phone. It is available on IOS as well. This app is an extension to her online dance academy with the same name.

The app was launched in 2013.  But when I downloaded the app it was showing only 50 downloads on Google store. Though, old news portals quoted that more than 10000 downloads were done for the app. I believe that the app was re-launched recently. User Interface is pretty attractive for the new version of the app. So I thought, let me download it and see what it has in store for me. Moreover, what could be better than learning Bollywood thumkas from the dancing diva herself?

Dance with Madhuri app, asks you to login with either Facebook, Google or requests you to create a new login ID. The app doesn’t post on FB automatically so it is ok to login with Facebook. After login it takes you to a page where you can choose among two buttons Quick start (which takes you to the list of options) and Surprise Me (Where a random clip or dance lesson is chosen for you). For me most of the random selections were done for fitness dance classes reminding me that I need to get in shape. (Evil grin!)

Once you select Quick start, it takes you to a list of dance options. For example you can learn to dance for a wedding, Navratri, Club Party, Audition, etc. Once you click on each of these tabs, it takes you to a list of relevant dance lesson clips. From Ghagra to Tamma Tamma to Batameez Dil, you can learn to dance on these popular numbers through this app. The dance lessons are divided into brief one and a half minute sections so that you can learn at your own pace and pay attention to details.

Not only that, you can learn various dance forms like Bollywood, Indian Classical like Kathak and Bharatnatyam, Folk, Latin & Ballroom including Tango and Salsa, Contemporary, Street Dancing, etc. with this free app. Each section has videos from dance experts who will take you through step-by-step process of learning that dance form. The app also lists jobs with DWM, institutes where you can enrol for dance classes near your home, events, contests, etc. You can also record your performance and upload on the app forum for voting from users across the world. I just saw a Russian lady dance impeccably on the song ‘Chane Ke Khet mein’. Absolutely mind blowing!

The lessons are very informative and easy. They come without any adverts which is the best part. So you can learn dancing from anywhere without having to invest in time or money. Professionals who are short of time can take part in Dancercise where you can burn almost 350 calories in a 25 minute session without going to a gym or a fitness class. Isn’t that great? (But it doesn’t mean I am allowed to eat aaloo paranthas after that. Just a thought!) It also, includes dance fitness moves to help you with body conditioning, core strengthening and stretching, to get you fit and healthy.

The app is not snag free though. At times manoeuvring to different sections by a novice might seem difficult. The app stops working if you make quick selections and the video becomes pixelated sometimes. It might be due to improper internet buffering. But all in all, it is a good app for the dance and fitness lovers. So, people who are looking for some fitness motivation should download this app. You will certainly enjoy learning with Madhuri Dixit and dance gurus like Terrence Lewis, Remo D’Souza, etc. The app has been endorsed by celebs like Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Saroj Khan, Pt. Birju Maharaj and the likes.
